General View of Construction of Crystal Springs Dam, 1888. Sepia photograph shows the construction of the Crystal Springs Dam looking down on the work site from an elevated view across a gorge. Trestlework fills the image with several walkways at center and a higher trestle on the left-hand side. Multiple workers are visible on the walkways moving small wheelbarrows and many can be seen clustered at the base of the trestle on the left. The number "64" appears right of center at bottom, and the caption, "GENERAL VIEW OF CONSTRUCTION OF CRYSTAL SPRINGS DAM 1888" is handwritten above the photograph in pink ink. |

"Crystal Springs Dam is a gravity dam constructed across the San Mateo Creek, impounding water to form the Lower Crystal Springs Reservoir in San Mateo County, California.
