Handheld Boxcar Mover, c. 1920s. The Thurman Smith Boxcar Mover was used to hand move boxcars on railway lines. It consists of a long wooden pole which tapers at either end. One tapered end is fed into a metal fitting which has oval shaped holes on its sides. Attached to the metal fitting by a nut and bolt is an angled metal pivot. Thurman Smith Saw. The Thurman Smith Saw is a two-person, hand-powered saw. It has one closed, wooden handle on one end and one upright, wooden peg handle on the other. The wooden peg handle has a metal band around it's base approximately 1.5" in width. Both handles appear to be fastened to the saw by screws or nuts and bolts.
