Bill was an outstanding athlete at Sequoia High School, He received a baseball scholarship to Santa Clara University. But he didn't excel only in sports. A World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, he became a fixture in the post-war political life of Redwood City and San Mateo County. That was a period of growth and progress along the Peninsula. After serving on the Redwood City City Council for sixteen productive years (four of them as mayor), He was elected to a seat on the county's Board of Supervisors. He kept that post from 1972 to 1979. He was later elected to the U.S. Congress, where he served one term. [2013.025.006] |
