"Bill Ring, a bruising fullback, left an indelible local mark on football programs at Carlmont High School in Belmont and the College of San Mateo. / He led the Scots to the 1975 South Peninsula Athletic League championship. He then set rushing records at CSM. / At Brigham Young University in Utah, Ring ran for 782 yards in two seasons. / Perhaps his finest hours occurred with the San Francisco Fourty Niners, for whom he played six productive campaigns. / He ran and caught the ball for two Super Bowl championship clubs and won the Len Eshmont Award as San Francisco's most inspirational player in 1983."
