Milton, Archie |
Notes |
[2014 Sports Hall of Fame Plaque] "There was a time when boxing was almost as much a part of a high school boy's physical development as the more subdued forms of exercise. Archie Milton is testament to that. He excelled as a practitioner of the sweet science at Sequoia and later at San Jose State. In the Spartans' top-notch boxing program in the 1950s, Milton became a collegiate heavyweight champion, winning coveted NCAA titles twice and finishing as a runner-up a third time. He is rightfully regarded as one of the finest boxers ever produced in San Mateo County. He and his 1958 SJS boxing team are enshrined in the school's athletic Hall of Fame. After graduation, he was invited to contend for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team." http://www.sfexaminer.com/sanfrancisco/ex-boxing-spartan-set-for-sports-hof/Content?oid=2812166 |
