Text of document 2022.038.001: "The G. W. Williams Co. Story In 1923, George W. Williams (1900-1986) founded G. W. Williams Co., Ltd., a partnership, and began constructing single family homes on the San Francisco Peninsula. The firm grew over the years: building several small subdivisions, commercial properties, World War II wartime housing for the military, and an Army hospital. In the mid-1920's the Company became an agent for Fireman's Fund Insurance Companies and continued in this role until 1993. In 1946, G. W. Williams Co., Ltd. discontinued, and its successor G. W. Williams Co., a corporation, formed. G. W. Williams Co. began development of several home subdivisions in the Bay Area and Sacramento. The Company developed commercial properties in San Bruno and South San Francisco and later light industrial properties, mainly in Belmont. During this period, the acquisition or building of apartment properties helped to concentrate the Company's area of operation on the San Francisco Peninsula and in the Sacramento area. George W. Williams Ill, son of the Founder, joined the firm in 1952 working in subdivision development and property management. He became President and Chief Executive Officer of G. W. Williams Co. in 1966. He stepped down from the Presidency to become Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer in 1992. Scott W. Williams, grandson of the Founder, joined the firm in 1977 working in property management and then in property development and acquisition. He was elected Corporate Secretary in 1979, and became President in 1992. Presently, the Company owns and manages light industrial, commercial, and apartment properties, as well as vacant lands for future development. The operations of the Company have increased considerably over the years. Property management services currently extend to outside accounts. The Company is actively pursuing the profitable uses of its vacant lands and existing properties. The staff is meeting this challenge through renovation and modernization of existing properties. Management is also striving to enlarge and upgrade its portfolio of properties to achieve this goal. G. W. Williams Co. remains a family-owned corporation. Employee dedication and active management have helped the firm to earn its well-respected reputation in the business community. Distribution: All Employees Revised 10-01-93" |
