Catalog Number 1983.214
Description U.S. 48-star Flag, c. 1931-1948. Synthetic(?) loose-weave cloth flag with 48 white stars. Stars are part of the fabric and the blue 17.5"x24" square has been dyed around them. Blue section is one solid piece while alternating red and white stripes are sewn individually. There is white binding on star side with folded-over ends through which brass grommets are placed.

Provenance Original notes says "Local Veterans of Foreign Wars was mustered in 1931" under provenance.
Notes "In 1912, two stars were added, representing Arizona and New Mexico, bringing the total number of stars to 48, arranged in 6 rows of 8 stars each. There were thirteen stripes representing the thirteen original colonies." [ 3/8/2017]
