Description Plaque commemorating Phil Monahan of Serra High School being inducted into the San Mateo County Sports Hall of Fame on May 18, 1993. Plaque includes image of Monahan and a brief biography: "Phil Monahan was the first in a long line of talented Serra High students to achieve athletic prominence beyond the San Mateo school's campus. / Monahan, a prep football Catholic All-American at Serra in the late 1940's, played on the school's first unbeaten grid unit in 1949. He was also a star baseball and basketball player at the school. / He wound up at the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis and was a key running back on Navy's No. 5-rated 1954 team. / Serving in Vietnam with the U.S. Marine Corps, he won two Bronze Stars for gallantry in action. He retired from the Marines as a major general."
