Description Tom Dooley Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame Plaque, 2016. Plaque commemorating Tom Dooley of Westmoor High School and College of San Mateo being inducted into the Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame on June 8, 2016. The plaque is printed on silver-colored metal with a 3" x 2.5" photograph mounted to the upper right hand corner. Metal and photograph are mounted beneath acrylic with gold-colored decorative brads onto an mdf wooden base covered in a dark woodgrain vinyl laminate. Top left corner has the 2016 Peninsula Hall of Fame logo which consists of a blue ribbon that reads "20 Peninsula Sports 16" across the base of a green trophy whose base reads, "HALL / OF / FAME" with arcs of 7 blue stars on either side. Color image of Dooley wearing blue running shorts, a "USA" white tank top with red lettering and a white cap. He is race-walking past a white car and another racer, all in white, is right behind him. A brief biography is also on the front, "Early in his running career in the mid-1960s, Tom Dooley was introduced to race-walking. Almost immediately, he thrived, having quickly adapted to the strict heel-toe discipline of the unique event. He became one of the country's leading race-walkers, continuing in elite status from 1966 to 1980. He competed in two Summer Olympic Games, two Pan American Games (garnering a silver medal in 1970) and three World Cups. Along the way, Tom broke 11 national race-walking records. Over his long and productive outdoor career (which included four U.S. championships), his personal bests were: 1:30.39 in the 20-kilometer event and 4:26.26 over 50 kilometers." The back of the plaque has an oval sticker with the logo and contact information for Spotlight Impressions, the manufacturer of the plaque.

"Tom Dooley won four AAU walk titles – the 2-mile in 1970, the 20 km. in 1971 and 1975, and the 40 km. in 1967. In the 1967 Pan American Games he finished fourth in the 20 km. walk and in the 1971 Pan American Games, he was the silver medalist in the 20 km. walk. Later he represented the US at the 1977 World Cup in the 50 km. walk, although he did not finish."
