Description Early Sawmill Model, c. 1955. Model of an early sawmill. Mechanical interactive sawmill model with exterior crank handle (outside plex). When the external crank is turned, the water wheel spins and the saw blade goes up and down. The log sits on a sliding carrier with a rope attached to a second crank inside the case that a logger would spin in order to move the log so that the cut would extend along its length. Wooden model is painted gray and has metal parts. It is housed beneath Plexiglass on a wooden table mount.

Provenance Model of an early sawmill built for the San Mateo County Historical Society by Mr. E.L. Oaks c. 1955. Case was fabricated by Barbara Holmes in 2011 for renovation of Nature's Bounty exhibit at the San Mateo County History Museum in Redwood City.
