Description Plaque commemorating Nick Vanos being inducted into the San Mateo County Sports Hall of Fame on May 19, 1992. Plaque includes image of Vanos and a brief biography: "Nick Vanos was the tallest - and one of the most talented - basketball players ever to play in San Mateo County. / At Hillsdale High School in San Mateo, Santa Clara University and Phoenix in the NBA, Vanos' teams never had a losing season. / As a senior at Hillsdale, he averaged 26.5 points per game. At SCU he became the school's all-time best shot-blocker with 144 rejections, third-leading rebounder and eighth-leading scorer. In all, Vanos scored 1,399 points for the Broncos and collected 879 rebounds. / As a 7-2 Suns rookie, he averaged five points and three rebounds per game. Vanos died in an airplane crash Aug. 16, 1987, at the age of 24."
