Description Matalan Auxiliary No. 2068 VFW Banner, n.d. Rectangular cloth banner has an inversed V-shape at bottom. Fabric is a dark marine blue on front with a turquoise blue backing. Front edge is bordered with 1" gold ribbon. Painted in the center front is an emblem consisting of a white and yellow cross on a gold ground with a gold circle with an eagle in the center surrounded by a blue border on which is printed, "AUXILIARY / V.F.W." Printed above emblem is gold 3" text with a light blue shadow and light tan highlights that reads, "MATALAN AUXILIARY / No. 2068." Below emblem is similar 2" text that reads, "VETERANS of FOREIGN WARS / OF THE UNITED STATES / SAN MATEO, CAL." 2.25" bronze metallic fringe hangs from bottom of banner with matching 4" tassels hanging from 2.25" cords from both bottom corners. Across top are four brass rings though which a gold painted wooden dowel is thread. Dowel has an eye screw at center for hanging, as well as smaller eye screws at ends through which bronze colored cord with three loops at center is secured. Loose brass finials in the shape of acorns secure to dowel ends.

"The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) is a U.S. organization comprised of men who have served overseas in the military during World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Persian Gulf War...The VFW was established in 1913, consolidating three organizations created by Spanish-American war veterans. From its inception, the VFW has sought to promote patriotism and national security. Its paramount mission, however, has been ensuring that needy and disabled veterans receive aid." []
