Catalog Number 2010.174.001
Description Crocker Family Tree Banner, 2010. Wall hanging (6.5" x 30' x 0.25") of Crocker family tree made by donor Alan Henderson and his wife Sara. Wall hanging is made of brown felt with red and blue patches machine embroidered with white thread listing family names--one patch per name. Images of original Crocker couple at top. Each patch is decorated with a brass split-pin fastener on either side and is organized with accompanying lines of ribbon on felt to show relation in family tree. There are decorative felt railroad track signs, 3 metal train pins and printed fabric train images throughout. Small metal rings are hand-sewn to a piece of white reinforcement fabric, which in turn is machine-stitched along the top back side of the wall hanging. Two wooden dowels (2010.147.002A-D) were placed in the seam at right and left sides for display. Small rectangular two sets of 9 each fabric pockets are sewn on the back at the top and bottom to hold 72.5" lengths of cross-cut PVC pipe (2010.147.003A-I) used to give the wall hanging structure and support so that it hangs flat. Each patch had 1 each small gold-colored metal split pin fastener at either end (398 total). These were removed for archival purposes by Curator Dana Neitzel on March 17, 2016 and saved in a bag labeled 2010.147.001.
