Description Plaque commemorating Bill Walsh of College of San Mateo being inducted into the San Mateo County Sports Hall of Fame on May 18, 1993. Plaque includes image of Walsh and a brief biography: "For Bill Walsh, the road from the College of San Mateo to the Superbowl was a long and varied one. A former CSM quarterback for Coach Herb Hudson, Walsh graduated from San Jose State and then began his coaching career.
He went from a high school job in the East Bay to assistant positions at Cal, Stanford and the Raiders, Bengals and Chargers of the NFL. / He did a first stint as Stanford's boss in 1977 and '78. In 1979, he took over the Forty Niners top post, leading that NFL franchise to three Super Bowls. He is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. / He returned to Stanford in 1992. The Cardinal tied for the Pac-10 championship that year. In his two Stanford tours of duty, Walsh's teams have won three post-season bowl games in three tries."
