Description 1978 Build Bypass Now! large adult T-shirt is white cotton with an image of a squatting red devil with a "No" symbol on the front and the words "Build / Bypass / Now!" in black letters on the back. Adult Large Hanes Beefy T-Shirt is 100% preshrunk white cotton. Promotional item created by Pacifica residents who were advocating a bypass that would avoid the dangers of Devil's Slide and keep a continuous flow of traffic between Pacifica and Half Moon Bay. The Bypass proposal was approved in 1972 but, in 1973, the Sierra Club sued and proposed a tunnel instead. Litigation ensued and the tunnel proposal was not brought up again until 1995 after serious landslides. The tunnel was proposed again and, in 1996, approved county-wide by voters. After many more delays, the tunnels project finally opened on March 15, 2013.
