Description I. Magnin & Co. Asymmetrical-brimmed Sunhat, c. 1966. Exterior of hat is woven orange-colored burlap(?). Crown has a flat round top with 4" high sides. Asymmetrical brim is 1.5" in back and 4.25" in front. A vertical seam runs down the side of the crown and brim at back. Interior of brim is lined with a coral-colored polyester material and is stitched with circles radiating out from crown opening. Crown is lined with a light orange-colored ribbed satin-like material. There is a 1" orange ribbon sewn to interior brim where it is affixed to crown.

Provenance Purchased and worn by donor in San Mateo County; donor lived in Atherton, CA.
Notes Mary Ann Magnin and Isaac Magnin opened their first store in 1876. The business would expand to have locations in Union Square, San Francisco and San Mateo. In 1944, the department store Bullocks bought the I. Magnin & Co. chain. In the 1980s Macys bought Bullocks and I. Magnin & Co.
