Description Matalan Auxiliary No. 2068 VFW Banner, n.d. Banner is a single layer of red silk(?) fabric. A center 28.25" x 19.25" rectangle has a 5" red border border. Top of red border reads, "MATALAN POST / 2068" in hand-painted 2" gold letters. Similar 2.75" letters on bottom red section reads, "V.F.W." At center of banner is mounted a 11" x 11.5" blue paper star with a white 1.5" x 2.875" paper rectangle on which "278" is printed in blue .5" text. This number appears to be comprised of three white stickers that have been affixed to the white rectangle. Surrounding the paper star on the white ground are sewn 98 2" embroidered blue stars with two y2" embroidered yellow stars between the last two rows of blue stars. A 2" gold cloth corded fringe is affixed along bottom edge. Top of banner has a 2" hem at back for inserting a dowel for hanging.

From its inception, the VFW has sought to promote patriotism and national security. Its paramount mission, however, has been ensuring that needy and disabled veterans receive aid." []
