Description Plaque commemorating Ken Towns being inducted into the San Mateo County Sports Hall of Fame on May 23, 1996. Plaque includes image of Towns and a brief biography: "Ken Towns, a San Mateo High alum, began his golf career in the era before the sport became a lucrative, big-time endeavor. When he got his start on the courses of San Mateo County in the 1940s, regular golf on television was unthinkable. There was no such thing. / Still, Towns won the National Public Links Championship in 1949 and the San Francisco city crown in 1964. He was a touring pro from 1964 to 1966. He also captured the Northern California PGA's sectional title five times and its senior sectional six times. / He took the Pro-Am portion of the Bob Hope Desert Classic as well."
