Description Plaque commemorating Ray and Zada Taft being inducted into the San Mateo County Sports Hall of Fame on May 19, 1992. Plaque includes images of Ray and Zada Taft and a brief biography: "Ray and Zada Taft have been swimming fixtures in San Mateo County. / Natives of San Francisco, they have taught more than 10,000 Peninsula youngsters to swim at their little school on 40th Avenue in south San Mateo. / As swimmers themselves, the two of them have been establishing records in the masters division since the 1970s. / At one time, Ray held no fewer than 21 masters records simultaneously. He has been swimming competitively since 1933. / So has Zada. The holder of three Pacific Association masters marks, she has swum the Golden Gate channel on 22 occasions. She did so the first time at age 17."
