Description Wood and acrylic plaque commemorating Keith Hernandez of Capuchino High School who was inducted into the San Mateo County Sports Hall of Fame on May 16, 1990. Plaque includes image of Hernandez and a brief biography: "Keith Hernandez was a three-sport star at Capuchino High School, a left-handed all-league quarterback in football and an all-county guard in basketball as a seniorn (sic) and an all-county baseball pick his junior year. / He was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 42nd round of the 1971 free agent draft. In a career that has spanned 16 yeats, Hernandez is a lifetime .300 hitters (sic) and has set or tied six major league records. He has played in two World Series, in 1982 with the Cardinals and in 1986 with the New York Mets, the team he joined in 1983. He now plays for rhw Cleveland Indians. / Hernandez was named the National League's Most Valuable Player in 1979 (along with Pittsburgh's Willie Stargell) after batting .344, driving in 105 runs, scoring 116 runs and collecting 46 doubles. He has also been voted to five all-star teams. / Hernandez, who attended the College of San Mateo while playing professional ball, is also known as a top defensive player. He was named to the Sporting News all-star fielding team 10 consecutive years."
