Description Wood and acrylic plaque commemorating Jim Fregosi of Serra High School who was inducted into the San Mateo County Sports Hall of Fame on May 16, 1990. Plaque includes image of Fregosi and a brief biography: "Jim Fregosi was a four-letter athlete in 1959, that golden year of sports at Serra High School in San Mateo. But it was in baseball that the Serra infielder made his career. At Serra, he anchored an infield that brought Serra its first sports championship in the old Catholic League. After short sints at Menlo College and Santa Clara University, Fregosi joined the California Angels in 1961 at the age of 19. His second year he batted .290 and his career took off. During his 10 years playing with the Angels, he was named to the American League All-Star team four times (1967-1970) at shortstop. In 1971, he called on his track skills which were nurtured at Serra to win the team stolen-base crown with 34 steals. After two years with the New York Mets, Fregosi finished his career with the Texas Rangers. He concluded his 18-year playing career with a .265 average, 157 home run and 706 RBIs. Fregosi then turned to managing, and his first major league call came from his original team, the Angels, in 1978. From Southern California, he went to the Chicago White Sox as skipper. He concluded his six years managing there with a 359-385 record."
