Description Diamond Block Hexagon Quilt, pre-1989. Hand-pieced and hand-quilted velvet and satin hexagon quilt with scalloped sides. The quilt is composed of diamond blocks constructed with 1.25" hexagon pieces, interspersed with black 1.25" hexagon "sashing." Blocks are constructed with fabric in shades of red, blue, brown, and green. There are 15 rows along the height of quilt that alternate with 10 or 11 blocks per row. Each block has a velvet hexagon piece at center that is surrounded by a diamond of 8 silk printed hexagon pieces. The silk pieces are floral patterned, and they are surrounded by 16 velvet pieces that match the color of the center hexagon piece. Backing and binding is a purple satin, quilting is done with blue thread and shows "stitch in the ditch" technique.
