Description U.S. 45-star Flag, c. 1896-1908. American flag is red, ecru and blue with 45 white stars. Unfinished top and bottom edges. Hem at striped end and ecru colored canvas binding at star end. Ecru colored cotton rope loops are sewn into ends of binding for mounting pole. Red, white and blue ground feels like a light burlap and is slightly transparent. Stars are a more solid shiny fabric and are appliquéd to both sides. Stripes are pieced with several vertical seams. Top of blue square has a horizontal section split in two creating both a horizontal and vertical seam.

Notes "The 45-Star Flag: This Flag became the Official United States Flag on July 4th, 1896. A star was added for the admission of Utah on January 4th, 1896, and was to last for 12 years. The Presidents to serve under this flag were Grover Cleveland (1893-1897), William McKinley (1897-1901),and Theodore Roosevelt (1901-1909)." [ 3/1/2017]
