Description Albert H Payson 1868 Diploma from West Point Military Academy. White parchment paper certificate with black handwritten and printed text and imagery mounted under glass inside a dark brown stained wooden frame with a narrow black inner border. Diploma's text is bordered by imagery of a curtain, eagle, American flag, soldier, books, weapons, and a drum. It reads, "UNITED STATES MILITARY ACADEMY / Be it Known that Cadet Albert H Payson of the State of Massachusetts having been carefully examined on all the Branches of the ARTS, SCIENCES and of LITERATURE taught at the United States Military Academy has been judged worthy to receive the Degree required by LAW prepariatory to his advancement to U.S. Army In testimony whereof and by Virtue of authority vested in the Academic Staff We do confer upon Him this Diploma and recommend him to the President for Promotion in Engineers, Ordinances, Artillery, Infantry or Country Given at West Point in the STATE of New York this 1st day of June in the Year of our Lord One thousand Eight Hundred and sixty-eight." The document has 12 signatures beneath this text. Inscription text: "RABJOHN / & / MORCOM / SAN FRANCISCO" (sticker on back)
