Description Hand Towel, c. 1920. Rectangular white colored hand towel. The long sides (height wise) are selvage edges and the shorter sides on the top and bottom have a border consisting of 4 straight woven lines 1 inch in from the fabrics edge. There is no pattern on the fabric. The short edges are commercially woven it looks like a sewing machine was used. On the back there is a loop tag that says "CANNON" which extends 0.625in. from the fabric.

Inscription Text "CANNON" (found on a tag on the back at the top left side. Blue ink. There are other words that have faded and cant be read.)
Provenance Brought from New York State about 1930s by donor's friend, a lady in her 90s. All items in this donation were over 100 years old when donated (1973) with the exception of the finger towels which were about 50 years old.
Notes A hand towel is "a smaller towel used specifically to dry the hands and face...used for decorative accents in the bathroom" []

"...the second most commonly used towel around the home...often positioned near the sink in the bathroom" []
