Description George Howard Baby Bonnet, 1864. Cloth baby bonnet worn by George Howard in 1864. Bonnet is ecru or off white in color. Inner lining is silk with an exterior comprised of lace and ribbons. Lace pattern has a single flower in a circle at the very top surrounded by a lace ruffle. Bands of lace with a floral/vine motif radiate from the top which would rest on the back of the baby's head. Bottom band has four layers of lace ruffle that is entwined with thin 1/8" ribbon. Front or top of bonnet has three "flowers" comprised of the same 1/8" ribbon. A similar "flower" sits at the back bottom center. Bonnet is shaped like an inverted "U" in font with a flat back at the bottom of the "U". Two long (15-16 1/2") 3/4" satin ribbons are at each side corner at the base of the "U". Hand made.
