Description Plaque commemorating Jack Bluth of San Mateo Times being inducted into the San Mateo County Sports Hall of Fame on May 18, 1993. Plaque includes image of Bluth and a brief biography: "Jack Bluth is synonymous with the growth of sports in San Mateo County and in the Bay Area generally. As sports editor of The Times for nearly 40 years, he covered everything from high school athletics to the professionals. He saw The Times sports section increase in size and scope through four decades as the region's sporting choices multiplied. From one significant pro franchise (the Forty Niners) in the 1950's, the area now embraces no fewer than five major pro sports operations, in addition to a plethora of high schools, community colleges, four-year schools and youth sports offerings. Bluth also managed the growth of The Times' sports coverage over the years to accommodate the entire county's burgeoning interest in all kinds of sports - from T-ball to the pros."
