Description Plaque commemorating Jim Whitney of Burlingame High School being inducted into the San Mateo County Sports Hall of Fame on June 14, 2011. Plaque includes image of Whitney and a brief biography: "A fearless blocker, rugged defender and slashing runner, Jim Whitney is regarded as one of the best football players ever to wear the red and white at Burlingame, where he was the Peninsula Athletic League Player of the Year in 1948 and an all-Northern California selection as well. Little did he know that he would become part of college football history at the University of San Francisco three years later. Whitney was an integral part of a superb Dons' team that went 9-0 but was denied a bowl bid in the South because of the presence of two African-Americans, Ollie Matson and Burl Toler, on its roster."
