Description Exhibit at San Mateo County Fair for Nuclear Survivial Shelters and Kits, 1961. Black and white negative of a Redwoood City vendor selling Survival Shelters and Kits at the San Mateo County Fair. The man wears a suit and tie and stands in the doorway of a "LEAD-WALL" nuclear survival shelter. On his left breast pocket there is an embroidered patch with the name "SCOTT" on top of a shield. He is holding a large tin can labeled, "EMERGENCY FOOD / WATER & FIRST AID / SUPPLIES." Beneath this is a shield with the words "10 DAY / SURVIVAL KIT." Beneath the shield it reads "PACKAGED IN CONTAINERS TO / PREVENT CONTAMINATION OF / THE CONTENTS AGAINST / RADIO ACTIVE FALLOUT / DISTRIBUTED BY / FAMILY SURVIVAL SERVICE, INC. / P.O. BOX 5882 - SAN FRANCISCO." The shelter appears to be made of concrete.
