2015.025.041 - This collection documents the activities of Allan R. Brown, who served as a Navigator in the Army Air Forces during World War Two and in the Air Force during the Korean War as a Navigator -Bombardier. The collection also contains materials related to Brown's career as an educator and administrator for College of San Mateo. Materials are textual, comprising of Armed Forces personnel records, news releases, correspondence, memoranda, clippings, and a school paper written by Allan Brown's neighbor. Long blue-colored wool jacket has two pleated chest pockets with button flaps, two straight lower front pockets with button flaps, an interior straight chest pocket with horizontal opening on proper right, epaulet straps secured with buttons beneath the collar and a four-button front closure.  All buttons are pewter-colored metal with embossed eagle.  There is dark blue-colored ribbon banding 3" above bottom of sleeve.  There is a split in the back just below the belt.  Jacket interior is lined with blue-colored rayon.  Several badges and emblems decorate the coat:  silver-colored metal maple leaves on each epaulet at shoulder; "U.S." silver-colored metal pins on top notches of collar; silver-colored metal wings on proper left breast; various cloth-colored bars above left breast pocket representing various tours of duty and accomplishments with the air force; blue white plastic name tag above proper right breast pocket with "BROWN" engraved into it.

An additional rectangle of faux fur is sewn to back of collar and can be buttoned when collar is raised for added warmth to one's neck.  Two front pockets above waist have diagonal snap closures.  There also two interior pockets with vertical snap closures.  Proper left arm has four narrow pockets for holding pens or items of similar shape.  Jacket has a front zipper closure.  Above proper left pocket is sewn a leather label in which "A.R. BROWN" is stamped.  Below the label a brown leather triangle is sewn.  Left proper shoulder has the Army Air Forces insignia (blue circle with wings and a white star with a red circle in its center) died into the fabric.  A large patch of an eagle carrying two red bombs with a white cloud, blue sky and gold lightning bolt is sewn onto proper left.  Eagle patch is from when Allan R. Brown served on the 731st Bomb Squadron, indicating that he wore this jacket both during WWII and during the Korean War.

Rayon(?) jacket is khaki on the outside with an olive colored rayon(?) lining and olive-colored knit collar, sleeves and waist.  Two front pockets above waist have diagonal snap flap closures.  Proper left arm has zippered side pocket below shoulder.  Four additional narrow pockets are sewn onto outside of side pocket for holding pens or items of similar shape.
