Scope & Content Office of Defense Transportation Poster, 1945. The poster shows a man with his hands on his head, seating on a chair looking relaxed, with his newspaper on his lap with a pitcher and glass of lemonade, and two pipes on the side over a stand on the right, a book stand on the left with a fan and a picture of a man in uniform with his dog at the bottom staring towards the right. Above the man in the chair, there is some painted text in bold and green that says "Me travel?". At the far right of the poster next to the stand with lemonade and two pipes, in brown paint, the text reads "ALBERT DORNE". Below the dog, there is some painted text in bold that says "... not this summer / VACATION AT HOME / OFFICE OF DEFENSE TRANSPORTATION" The word "this" is underlined. Below the text above, the printed text in tiny, and bold reads "U.S. GOVERNMENT PRINTING OFFICE : 1945--O-643715". At the back of the poster, towards the left hand side in the middle, there is some printed text on the upper left hand corner in black square that says "AN URGENT MESSAGE / from the UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT". Below the text above, the bold printed text reads "OFFICE OF DEFENSE TRANSPORTATION / OFFICIAL BUSINESS". Towards the right side, the bold printed text says "PENALTY FOR PRIVACY USE TO AVOID / PAYMENT OF POSTAGE, $300". In the middle of both of these texts, the typed text says "The Mayor / San Mateo, California".
