Scope & Content Identification of Warplanes spotting wheel, April 21, 1942. This 12" wheel is made of paper, and round in shape and is double sided. The wheel is connected to a round brown cardboard with black lines in between each photo of U.S. warplanes, which are all in shaded and drawn in black. Each of the planes is shown on its top and its side. The wheel is the middle of the round brown cardboard. It has edges all around the wheel, a small opening gap at the top and small brass hole in the middle of the wheel. Next to the small opening gap at the top of the wheel, there is some printed text in bold and black underneath columns of lines spaced out in between the text. The text reads "WINGS AND LOCATION / NO. OF ENGINES / WING SHAPE FRONT / REAR / TIP / LANDING GEAR / TAIL AND RUDDER / NOSE / TYPE". The words "FRONT / REAR / TIP" are disproportionately smaller than the rest of the text "WING SHAPE" and are on the same line as "WING SHAPE". The words "NOSE / TYPE" are on the same line. In the small opening gap, with a background in white on the round brown cardboard with a variety of black text underneath a column of lines that changes when spinning the spotting wheel. Below the text above and the small opening gap at the top, there is some more printed text in black and bold that reads "IDENTIFICATION / OF / WARPLANES". On the left of the text "IDENTIFICATION OF WARPLANES", there are some drawings of planes with some bold, black and tiny text below each picture of the plane that reads "HIGH-WING / MIDWING / LOW-WING / PARASOL MONOPLANE". In the middle of the wheel, below the small brass hole, in black, and bold with medium text, the printed text reads "C", which is surrounded by a small circle around it. Below the text above, in black and bold, the printed text reads "RESTRICTED". On the far right of the wheel, printed in black, the text reads "KEY to / Descriptive Abbreviations / R.--Retractable Landing Gear / S.--Single Tail and Rudder. / B.--Blunt Nose. / L.--Long Nose". The text "R.--Retractable Landing Gear / S.--Single Tail and Rudder. / B.--Blunt Nose. / L.--Long Nose" is in black with smaller lettering than the text "KEY to / Descriptive Abbreviations. Below the drawings of planes and the text on the left, printed in black, bold with tiny lettering, the text reads "[A. G. 452.9 (4-21-42)]". Across from the text above on the far right, printed in black, bold with tiny lettering, the text reads "U.S. GOVERNMENT PRINTING OFFICE : 1942--O-457035".
